The heart of the lecture is the explanation of what a speech claim is, and how the structure of a speech argument flows from that claim.  These two parts of the lecture (Claim, Inherency) are about 24 minutes in total.  Another crucial part of the lecture is the 2-minute explanation of the goal of the perspectives speech.  Use the other parts of the lecture depending on your needs.  I describe the compare & contrast pattern at two places in the lecture, but you may choose to do that on your own.  I also show students how to use the IU databases to do research for the compare and contrast pattern.
