The period from 1990 through 2010 was marked in both Russia and Mexico with performances of masculinity in products of popular culture that created highly similar portraits in these two dissimilar cultures. Performances that began as hypermaculine in both cultures at the end of the 20th century emerge as very different products in the 21st. Using examples from popular film and music, this talk will attempt to demonstrate how circumstances in the two disparate marginal cultures/countries produce
