Catholicism and Orthodoxy are being used to inhibit progression to equality for women, as well as, international normative domestic violence advocacy. Looking at States we can see the use of religion to justify Nationalism and undermine emerging democracies. The push and pull of East and West, Old and New or Democracy and Authoritarianism, can be seen in the political use of religious dogma allowing for little progress to address domestic violence.
