With the implementation of digital radiography, radiographers are now able to quantify image receptor exposure. However, many radiographers do not have a full understanding of the importance of the exposure indicators and their impact on image quality. This presentation will discuss the importance of EI and S numbers and impact overexposure and underexposure have on image quality through image analysis. Additionally, direction will be provided on how to correct exposure on an image that does not have the correct exposure indices.
Melynie Durham, MS, RT (R), MR holds a Clinical Assistant Professor position and serves as the Clinical Coordinator at Indiana University Northwest. She began her career in Medical Imaging in 1986 and is registered in both Radiography and Magnetic Resonance Imaging and earned her master’s degree in Health Administration at the University of St. Francis. Ms. Durham is co-author of Introduction to Radiologic Imaging Sciences and Patient Care. She has been an invited speaker for multiple presentations and a Blueprint for Success grant recipient. Additionally, Ms. Durham is a member in good standing for several professional organizations and sits on multiple faculty committees as both a member and faculty advisor.
