We have all had students who express doubts about their ability to
succeed in their academic pursuits, often believing harmful cultural
messages that can become crippling. Threats to students’ learning become
threats to our survival as an institution. The address will present the
research on stereotype threats and how to combat them and will provide
an opportunity to apply SOTL concepts to discover useful interventions.
