Christopher Barnes, PhD, MSI
Assistant Professor and Digital Publishing Librarian
Adelphi University
After earning a PhD in English at Michigan, Professor Christopher Barnes obtained his MSI in academic librarianship from their School of Information. Driven by a desire to help reform a broken system, he focused on scholarly communications and completed a capstone project on Knowledge Unlatched, an organization working to use library subscriptions to support OA monograph publishing. After graduating, Chris was the scholarly communications librarian at Gettysburg College and then Franklin & Marshall College. In that role, his work expanded to include supporting efforts to lower or eliminate the cost of course materials through the use of open educational resources and library-licensed materials. Chris managed the institutional repository at both schools, using it as a publishing platform for open content. In his current role as digital publishing librarian at Adelphi University, he continues to manage the IR but has focused on launching a library publishing program.
