Community Outreach Archivist
Washington State University Libraries
Lotus Norton-Wisla (she/her/hers) is the Community Outreach Archivist at Washington State University’s Center for Digital Scholarship and Curation (CDSC) and Manuscripts, Archives, and Special Collections (MASC). Originally from Northern Wisconsin and currently living in the inland Northwest, she is a settler on the lands of the homelands of the Nimíipuu (Nez Perce) Tribe and the Palus people. She works with the MASC team to provide outreach and reference support, co-leads a collaborative initiative with the WSU LGBTQ+ Center for queer community-driven archiving, and supports CDSC initiatives including the Plateau Peoples’ Web Portal, the Sustainable Heritage Network, and Mukurtu CMS. From 2015-2020, Norton-Wisla coordinated and provided instruction for the yearlong Tribal Digital Stewardship Cohort Program at WSU. She currently volunteers with the Society of American Archivists Native American Archives Section to support the Indigenizing Archival Training, a pilot program funded by the Mellon Foundation. Norton-Wisla is passionate about collaboration in her own institution and across organizations. She builds and supports relationships and strives to be a resource to others through information sharing and problem-solving. In her work, she continues to learn about unique needs around access and description of Indigenous materials, collaborative curation, and reciprocal partnerships.
This program has been approved for 1 LEU (Library Education Unit) through the Indiana State Library. Please reference their continuing education site and approved providers page for self documentation guidance and more information.
