Kenny Linden, PhD candidate in IU's Department of Central Eurasian Studies, presents on the field research he carried out in Mongolia last year with the help of a Fulbright-Hays DDRA grant. He discusses his dissertation work on the environmental and animal history of collectivization in socialist Mongolia, highlighting some of the major themes of his research, including changes in livestock management, veterinary care, response to natural disasters, and wolf hunting. He also offers some thoughts on how his research challenges common assumptions in the fields of environmental humanities, human-animal relations, and Central Eurasian studies.
