Indiana University alumni hosted an IU Trustee candidate forum at 4:15 p.m. on Friday, June 6, with the two candidates for the IU Board of Trustees, Andrew Baldwin and Pat Shoulders. The forum will be moderated by Perry Metz, Executive Director, IU Radio & Television Services.
Indiana University alumni elect three of the nine members of the IU Board of Trustees. Indiana's governor appoints the other six, including a student trustee. All trustees serve three-year terms, with the exception of the student trustee who serves a two-year term. Since alumni-elected trustees serve rotating terms, alumni vote for one each year.
Two candidates are vying for election this year. Incumbent Pat Shoulders, of Evansville, Ind., has served as an IU trustee since 2002. He earned his bachelor's degree in English in 1975 and his Doctor of Jurisprudence in 1978 from the IU Robert H. McKinney School of Law in Indianapolis. He practices law with Ziemer, Stayman, Weitzel and Shoulders in Evansville.
Challenger Andrew Baldwin, of San Francisco, is an associate with Western Technology Investment. He graduated from IU in 2007 with a degree in finance and earned an MBA in 2013 from the Stanford Graduate School of Business.
In accordance with state law, the annual election is conducted by the Ruth Lilly Dean of University Libraries, Brenda Johnson, on the Bloomington campus, with assistance from the IU Alumni Association.
