Indiana University operates two surplus stores that help units dispose of any items that are no longer wanted or needed for University business. They accomplish this mission by assisting in the redistribution of items to departments who need them, selling items both in-store and through auctions, and recycling items whenever possible. The stores, located in Bloomington and in Indianapolis, offer office furniture, industrial equipment, materials from buildings that are being renovated, computers, peripherals, and many, many miscellaneous items. IU surplus stores also have many services that help IT pros with their work. Both stores accept all unneeded University owned electronic equipment at no cost. Units can transfer items to surplus by filling out a transfer form on the stores websites. It's important to note that all devices that have memory must be wiped by the unit before transfer to surplus. Both locations offer in-store hard drive shredding or crushing to ensure University data is protected. For a small fee, the IU Bloomington store can even deliver a hard drive crusher right to your unit. Both stores offer pickup services. The Bloomington store has a large capacity vehicle and pickups are always free. In Indianapolis, small pickups are free and large quantity pickups can be arranged for a fee. Both stores have a Got Smalls program that allows units to send small items to surplus through campus mail. Both stores allow IT pros to shop for items they might need such as cords, cables, peripherals, furniture and much more. The IU Bloomington store also offers an online auction service through govdeals.com which can be used by both the core and regional campuses to sell big items or large quantities of smaller items.
