The University Information Policy Office, and the University Information Security Office, are part of the Institutional Assurance Division of the Office of the Vice President for Information Technology, and are not part of UITS. This ensures that they can provide unbiased guidance in the event of an issue affecting a core UITS service.
These teams work with Information Security, Information Policy, Data Management, Data Administration, Incident Response and others. They provide security analysis, development, education, and guidance related to Indiana University's Information Assets, and Information Technology environment. The objective is to establish and maintain a resilient and secure infrastructure in which to conduct university business.
UISO and UIPO staff work together to respond to and investigate incidents related to the misuse or abuse of IU information technology resources. This can include computer and network security breaches, and unauthorized disclosure or modification of institutional or personal information.
Additional services to the IU community include security bulletins, and information about computer security. A system and web application vulnerability scanning service, the website privacy notice generator, and the IU certificate authority.
For non-emergency IT security related questions, comments, or suggestions, or for requests for security related consulting, contact UISO@IU.edu, or UIPO@IU.edu, or call 812-855-UISO, or 812-855-UIPO.
For emergency IT incidents, including sensitive data exposures, both digital and physical, please, immediately file an email report with IT incident at IU.edu. Next, call UITS Data Center Operations, 812-855-9910, to have the Incident Response Team notified.
