CIBER Focus: "Education & Human Devastation Syndrome in Syria" with Mary Stylidi, September 7, 2018

Dr. Mary Stylidi works in the Greek Ministry of Education, Research, and Religious Affairs as Special Education Personnel. She is currently deployed as an External Expert in the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Aleppo, Syria, in addition to a role as Regional Commissioner for Unaccompanied Minor Refugees in Greece on behalf of UNHCR.  She is a certified International Rescuer and a Delegate in the International Committee of the Red Cross, with experience that has led her to working with some of the most vulnerable populations around the world.

In this edition of CIBER Focus, Dr. Stylidi discusses her post-doc research on Human Devastation Syndrome in Syria and its effects on education and poverty as the country seeks to reconstruct. She examines the effects of war and crisis on the nation's youth, the psychological impacts of life as a refugee, and the path forward to recovery.
