IU Bloomington will award nearly 9,000 degrees as it celebrates its 184th commencement this year. The Bloomington campus undergraduate ceremony will take place on Saturday, May 4. Indiana University President Michael McRobbie will preside over two similar ceremonies in Assembly Hall, with the morning session starting at 10 a.m. and the afternoon session at 3 p.m. The processions of graduates begin 45 minutes prior to those times.
Mills College President Alecia DeCoudreaux, an alumna of the Maurer School of Law, will address students at the undergraduate commencement ceremonies and will receive an honorary doctorate. DeCoudreaux is a distinguished lawyer, educator and leader who was a senior executive at Eli Lilly and Co. before becoming president of Mills College in 2011. Former Indiana State Sen. Vi Simpson also will receive an honorary doctoral degree during the undergraduate ceremonies. Simpson served in the Indiana Senate for 28 years.
