Integration of professional development into the course curriculum
will enable students to better prepare themselves for their career at no cost, as
DataCamp provides a free academic group account upon a teacher’s request. In
addition, this proposal will also generate insights on the Data Science female students
enrollment and their patterns of learning in a predominately male industry. The
findings could also lead to suggestions for redesigning online courses to improve
retention rate, increase students’ engagement, and subsequently increase enrollment.
The proposal has the potential to advance our understanding on
students’ learning behaviour in online courses. Furthermore, the findings will
demonstrate whether the curriculum adjustment to include the practical professional
development is an effective strategy to increase students’ motivation.
