For the 2021-22 academic year, Ghada Amer, a New York-based artist, will deliver the Jane Fortune Outstanding Women Visiting Artist Lecture.
Amer, one of today’s leading artists, will discuss her practice, which often revolves around gender and sexuality, as well as her complicated relationship with painting as an artist who employs a wide range of materials and media, including embroidery, sculpture, ceramics and gardens, as well as collaborative projects with Reza Farkhondeh, since 2001.
The Jane Fortune Outstanding Women Visiting Artist Lecture brings internationally acclaimed female artists to Indianapolis. A gift from Indiana philanthropist Jane Fortune—author, art historian and founder of Advancing Women Artists Foundation—has made the lecture series possible. Ann Hamilton, Maria Magdalena Campos-Pons, Deborah Butterfield, Eleanor Antin, Faith Ringgold, Carrie Mae Weems, and, most recently, Paula Scher have all spoken as guests.
This event is free and open to the public and will take place on the IUPUI campus in Eskenazi Hall’s Basile Auditorium. Seating is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis; arrive early.
