In Part 1 of our series on Sustainable Development & Human Migration, Dr. Georgina Ramsay draws from years of field work with refugees and asylum-seekers in Uganda and Australia to share her insights on the process of refugee resettlement and asylum.
With an estimated 65 million refugees worldwide, many countries are reviewing their refugee and migration policies. Displaced persons spend an average of 17 years in asylum, causing many policy makers and international organizations, like the United Nations, to press for sustainable, long-term solutions rather than “camp” models that rely heavily on humanitarian aid.
