Dawn New addresses discusses her recent research trip to Botswana and South Africa with Brenda Bailey-Hughes. New is a Visiting Lecturer in Business Communication at Indiana University's Kelley School of Business and Bailey-Hughes is a Senior Lecturer also at the Kelley School of Business. New warns that anyone travelling to Africa must be prepared and flexible. During her trip, she noticed that business was survival-focused as people were selling anything and everything. Roadside vendors sold predictable items such as fruits and vegetables but also unexpected items such as car exhausts to make their living. Overall, New claims the people in South Africa and Botswana were peaceful and welcoming. She encourages potential travellers to remain open to the cultural diversity on the continent and highly recommends engaging in thorough research and preparation before leaving home. *This video was recorded as a part of the Indiana University CIBER Focus Vodcast Series.
