Tanya Hall discusses the role of exports and foreign direct investment in Indiana businesses in an interview with Kelley MBA student Jimmy Bettcher. Hall, Economic Research Analyst with the Indiana Business Research Center, first provides an overview of Indiana’s key exports which include vehicle parts as well as organic chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and medical devices and supplies. Bettcher asks Hall what impact the European financial crisis might have on Indiana. Hall expects export growth to increase overall and predicts that exports in the life sciences sector will offer Indiana a competitive advantage within the Euro Zone. Hall offers advice to Indiana businesses poised to enter the global market. She advocates thoroughly researching potential markets and stresses the importance of recognizing that sales in foreign markets are not the same as domestic sales. Finally, Hall encourages Indiana businesses to seek out the resources available to them including the U.S. Commerce Department in Carmel, IN and the IBRC. *This video was recorded as a part of the Indiana University CIBER Focus Vodcast Series
