In spring 2021, the International Center for Intercultural Communication partnered with Balanced Education, an Egyptian educational foundation, to provide 14 Egyptian EFL teachers with six weeks of virtual professional development and to develop a basic English skills curriculum.
In this presentation, Rehab Morsi, Associate Faculty in the Program for Intensive English, and Matthew Hume, Assistant Director for the International Center for Intercultural Communication, will share their experiences of this project, from initial conversations and contract negotiations, to the Balanced Education conference in Cairo and an interview on Cairo’s internationally broadcast Good Morning Egypt. The presenters will discuss the intercultural considerations of developing a training course meeting the needs of this specific cohort of teachers, as well as an EFL course meeting the overall needs of the adult Egyptian students it will serve. Examples will be shown of the teacher training materials, as well as of the EFL curriculum developed.
This event is part of the Department of World Languages and Cultures’ International Lecture Series and is hosted as part of the 2022 IUPUI International Festival.
