The management of Research Data is an important consideration to all research scientists.
From archiving, ownership, retention, security, storage, and transfer—data is a central consideration
in many aspects of data management. Yet, who owns the data is a central consideration
in research as ownership also can generally include the ability to control. Hence,
who owns the data is an essential consideration as ownership may also entail stewardship
responsibilities and reuse limitations.
“Who Owns the Data” networking lunch hopes to encourage researchers to consider the
ownership of data in their research environment. Intended to provide a brief background
of ownership of research data, the lunch event will provide some basic questions for a
researcher to consider. The event will include opportunities for discussion and networking
within—and external to—the IU community.
