As a way to celebrate Native American Heritage Month and
support sustainability education, the Campus Library hosted a film showing on
November 10th, 2021 of a documentary from our
AVON
database, titled
Common
Ground: The Story of Bears Ears, a national monument in Southeastern Utah
that was established in 2016 and contains a number of historic, cultural, and
natural resources important to a several local Native American tribes. The film
was followed by a presentation by Aaron Comstock, assistant professor of
anthropology, who spoke about his current research at the Guard and Turpin archaeological
sites in the Cincinnati Tri-state region and on the importance of integrating Indigenous voices
to preserve our natural and cultural landscapes. This event was sponsored by the Office of Sustainability, Office of Diversity and Inclusion, and the Campus Library. The script of the talk and the PowerPoint slides are included in the attachment section. Please note that the PowerPoint slides have been edited to remove slides containing specific details pertaining to the sites.
