The Tortoise and the Hare:
Why Some Non-Traditional Students Sail
While Others Nearly Drown upon Return to School
My college experience was a journey that, like most others, started right out of high school. However, my educational journey, attaining 3-degrees, followed a very non-traditional path through corporate training and education, business consulting, business ownership, Hollywood, law enforcement, and eventually into academia. My experiences offered a front-row seat into what non-traditional students face in their academic journey. I’ve since engaged in SoTL research focused on marginalized student groups, including non-traditional students, and the unique obstacles they navigate to secure their education. Journey with me as we venture down this trail in our joyful experiences with this student group and share strategies on how to address their unique needs in our classrooms.
