Reconsider beauty standards with Tarik Carroll, whose work will be presented at Herron School of Art and Design from March 23 to April 26.
Carroll, a body positivity activist and New York-based artist-photographer, will speak at Herron in conjunction with the exhibition "Tarik Carroll–EveryBODY IS A GOOD BODY: The RE-formation of Beauty Standards." The discussion will be moderated by Herron Galleries Director and Curator Joseph Mella.
This event is part of Herron School of Art and Design's inaugural presentation of the Michael A. and Laurie Burns McRobbie Emerging Artist Series. The McRobbie Emerging Artist Series supports national and international emerging artists from diverse backgrounds through public lectures, residencies, and exhibitions while advancing learning opportunities for students, faculty, and community members. Carroll is the first featured artist in this new annual series, chosen from a pool of faculty nominations by Herron's Exhibitions and Speakers Committee.
About the artist:
Tarik Carroll specializes in fashion, music, and commercial work. He combines pop art, graphic design, and photography through his lens on a uniquely fresh contemporary aesthetic. His work has been featured in GQ, Teen Vogue, The New York Times, People Magazine, NBC News, NYLON, Afro Punk, NewNowNext, Brit + Co, the Human Rights Campaign, and BuzzFeed, among other publications. He's also collaborated with celebrities and socialites like Corbin Bleu and Eric West. Carroll holds a B.F.A. in graphic design from the New York Institute of Technology. The Brooklyn native is passionate about family, art, and community.
