Hilary Harkness | Visiting Artist Lecture at Herron School of Art + Design
Presented by the Herron Queer Artist Alliance as part of the LGBTQIA+ Student Forum Series
This lecture features internationally recognized artist Hilary Harkness, known for her detailed, narrative paintings exploring themes of gender, race, sexuality, and power. Hosted by the Herron School of Art + Design at Indiana University Indianapolis, this event offers a compelling overview of Harkness’s career, artistic evolution, and her current body of work, including the Arabella Freeman series.
Through both visual presentation and a live reading from her original zine Prisoners from the Front, Harkness shares how personal identity, historical fiction, and social justice converge in her art. The talk reflects her ongoing commitment to amplifying underrepresented voices, particularly those within the LGBTQIA+ community.
This event is part of Herron’s LGBTQIA+ Student Forum, made possible through support from the IU Queer Philanthropy Circle and a Pride-filled Donor.
