Remember the book All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten? At the 2022 Adjunct Faculty Scholars Conference, University of Louisville Professor Tim Roberts will share his twist on this classic work in his keynote, “All I Really Need to Know about Teaching Well, I Learned by Reading Comic Books!” Roberts isn't alone in his outside-the-box approach to knowledge acquisition; in his essay "Hidden Intellectualism," Dr. Gerald Graff asserts his own intellectual skills were developed by reading sports magazines and novels, which he calls "intellectualism by other means." In this keynote presentation, Roberts will discuss their parallel experiences in learning through unconventional means, share his top lessons learned from comics, detail how he uses these lessons in his classroom, and present strategies that you can use to assist your students in transferring their abilities and passion about personal interests to more traditional academic applications.
