Presentation: Core Equity Practice Skills
Inclusive cultures are the product of skill development and practice. It is critical that leaders and practitioners develop core equity skills. Core equity practice skills are an expanded cultural competency framework where all individuals engage and accept responsibility for inclusion, belonging, and antiracism.
The interactive workshop highlights the importance of equity skills and why they are critical to organizations.
It outlines diversity, equity, and inclusion principles and values and establishes core behaviors that leaders can
apply within their respective institutional roles. The workshop has a practical focus and addresses 1) how leaders
can manage their activation and discomfort in conversations about DEI, 2) avoiding disruptive behaviors that
cause harm through ally skills building, 3) modeling of alternative value-aligned behaviors, including restorative
interpersonal practices, and 4) supporting individuals impacted by harmful behavior.
Learning objectives:
1. Identify the need for equity practice in leadership spaces
2. Discuss the role of equity practice in transformational change for your organization
3. Describe core equity practice behaviors
4. Explain and review core equity practice skills
