In this edition of CIBER Focus, Dr. Onalenna Seitio-Kgokgwe draws from her many years working in public health and development to talk about the health care industry in Botswana and how the Institute of Development Management (IDM) is working to improve healthcare management in Southern Africa.
Botswana has one of the best health care systems in the region and is the first country to run free access to antiretroviral treatment nationwide. It has seen the death rate due to AIDS fall over the past decade; though unfortunately, the prevalence of HIV has risen over same time period. This has led to an increasing burden on the healthcare system and new opportunities for the private sector in Botswana.
