While Canvas makes it easy for teachers to post online assignments, quizzes, and resources, Canvas does not make it easy for students to manage the workload. Given that submitting assignments on time is the strongest predictor of student success in online learning environments, automated nudges have the potential to fill an important gap in the default LMS toolkit: providing real-time, personalized services that support student engagement and success. Experimental pilots at IU have demonstrated these features within Boost help students significantly improve assignment submission rates and course performance at scale.
