Overview: Fair Housing for People with Disabilities
The Fair Housing Laws provide several protections for persons with disabilities, the class of people with the highest percentage of Fair Housing Complaints within the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development.
In this training, we will focus on a general overview of fair housing laws, and a detailed discussion of reasonable accommodations and reasonable modifications for people with disabilities.
About the Speaker:
Amy Nelson began as the first Executive Director of the Fair Housing Center of Central Indiana in October 2011. She has worked in fair housing nonprofit organizations since 1997. From December 1997 to September 2009, she was the Executive Director of the Fair Housing of the Dakotas (FHD) serving North and South Dakota. The Fair Housing Center of Central Indiana has had several significant cases addressing housing discrimination against those with disabilities and families with children and sexual harassment against women.
Amy is active in her Indiana community and nationally, including serving as: a current member of the Board of Directors of the National Fair Housing Alliance; a member of the Indianapolis Continuum of Care (CoC); a member of the Indianapolis GIPC Race & Cultural Relations Leadership Network; a member of the Concerned Clergy of Indianapolis; a member of the Indianapolis Great Places Vitality Committee and; a board member of the Indiana Association for Community Economic Development She is a 2015 recipient of the Central Indiana Realtist Association “Best of the Best” Award.
Amy received a Bachelor of Science degree in International Business and Political Science from Minnesota State University-Moorhead of Moorhead, MN and received her Master of Business Administration from Averett College of Danville, VA.
